There's really no point to this blog anymore.

January 22, 2017

I purchased the domain name treadingonyou.com back in 2014. I've been thinking over the past week that I'd like to set up website at that domain (which currently redirects to this blog) to catalog things that Donald Trump has done that will cost people actual, real money or otherwise have a tangible, measurable on one's freedom.

The goal I would have for this site wouldn't just be to catalog and enumerate things that Donald Trump has talked about doing, but rather to illustrate and illuminate those things that he and his executive agencies have actually signed or regulated into law. An example of the former would be Trump's unconstitutional threat to strip citizenship from people burn the United States flag. An example of the latter is one of the first executive orders signed by Trump that reversed a drop in the FHA mortgage insurance premium, the timing of which will keep 10% of our nation's homeowners from getting a cut in their premiums, thus costing them a few hundred dollars per year. There's an actual, tangible change that will cost actual Americans real money.

However, I don't think I have the time or knowledge to keep track of all of the executive actions, laws, and regulations that Trump and the dozens of regulatory agencies (such as the FHA, FTC, FCC, EPA, CPSC, EEOC, FDIC, FDA, NLRB, OSHA, SEC, etc.) will make that will adversely affect this country, especially since I have a normal job. Since I don't think I can keep a site like that up with accurate, timely, and relatively complete information then the site will not be useful and could potentially be the opposite of useful, providing fodder to illustrate that Trump isn't doing improper or bad things because I couldn't accurately collect all of the information. (Before you say that Trump has frozen all regulation making, freezing or removing regulations is a change that can adversely affect all Americans, such as by costing people, organizations, and companies money on electricity from the usage of unnecessarily inefficient appliances, not to mention the indirect costs. As they say, if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.)

That said, if you have links to published reports (from reputable sources) you're welcome to send them to me and if I collect enough of them then I may start to publish them on a real website. I just don't want to make any promises at this point that I will be some sort of vanguard in accountability.

If you follow anything I do on GitHub then you might have noticed a bunch of updates to my blog today. I fixed three big bugs.

The first is the Unicode/UTF-8 problems that I experienced when I tried to talk about the City of CaƱon City. Now I can put in non-ASCII characters and they'll actually look correct.

Second, the data corruption bug on pictures mailed from my phone has been fixed. The problem was that I forgot to close the file handle on the images as they came in before opening it again to process it. My bad. I went back and fetched all of the images from the blog inbox and reprocessed them. No more data corruption!

Finally, the last change was a not a bug but some stupid shit Zack kept doing to write ridiculously long comments. Zack, you're a jackass and I will delete any comment you post that tries that shit again.

I'm sorry I just don't have as much to say as I used to.

Of the top ten IP addresses to visit my web server in September, two of them are Comcast IP addresses belonging to me and Danielle, one of them is my desktop computer at UW, six of them are UW DHCP addresses that were used by either my iPhone or my work laptop, and the last one is Ken. I'm not sure how I feel about this. (My web server has more than just this here blog. I've got CalDAV and CardDAV services and an RSS reader and an HTTP git server, among other things running.)

All of the photos that used to sort of be on the homepage of paullockaby.com are now entries in this here blog. So now suddenly my blog goes back to 2004 which is pretty cool.

February 23, 2015

Sometime real soon now, tonight or tomorrow, I will be moving this blog to paullockaby.com. All of your RSS feed will break. Sorry.
